They will know us by our love for one another

By Chris Quimby (Guest Contributor)

My conclusion from observing social networking posts from professing Christians (including myself), sharing the company of other believers, and reading online blogs from those that desire to represent the faith, is that there is a ton of negativity, dissatisfaction and disillusionment.

Much of the discussion is focused upon what God is against, what we are against (at least in our public proclamations), and how unChristian non-Christians are (as if we should expect otherwise).

In fact, if I’m being honest, this post is also a critique, but one hopefully with redeeming value.

Selfishness, pride, and the Richard Sherman in all of us

First, let’s make something clear: Richard Sherman is not a thug (ie., ‘a cruel or vicious ruffian, robber, or murderer’).

By now, even if you’re a nominal sports fan, you’ve probably seen the interview heard ’round the world in which Richard Sherman, who is a defensive back for the Super Bowl-bound Seattle Seahawks, proclaimed himself ‘the best corner in the game’ (which is true), calling San Francisco 49ers Wide Receiver Michael Crabtree a ‘sorry receiver.’ You can see the short interview below.

Considering Abortion? Consider your ‘First Step’…

first step

— By Guest Contributor Sarah Prill —

How often do you hear the phrase “my body, my choice”? Indeed it is. Abortion is legal in this country. But how often do you see the choices clearly laid out, and the consequences of either choice presented plainly. So many young women are left feeling alone, hopeless, judged; and as though they have no choice.

Regardless of your circumstances, there are choices if you are considering an abortion. And not only could the life of an unborn child be saved, but your life could be saved and spared traumatic heartbreak, too.

While Planned Parenthood has been in the news a lot as of late, and is often cited as the agency for women to seek assistance when considering abortion, the Bangor area is blessed to offer an alternative- First Step Pregnancy Resource Center. This alternative receives no government funding and exists solely from private donations, and all the services they offer are FREE.
